Concert Review

Dave Matthews Band played Darien Lake Amphitheater on July 22, 2026, and it was an excellent show from the very beginning. The show started at 7:30 p.m. and went until about 10:20 p.m., so they played nearly three hours. For a band with as many songs as DMB has, that kind of set always feels like a reminder of why people keep coming back to see them year after year.

They came out with a lot of energy right away, opening with “Stay (Wasting Time)” and then going straight into “What Would You Say.” That was a great way to start the night. Both songs have that big live feel, and it immediately made the show feel loose, fun, and wide open.

One of the early highlights for me was “Grace Is Gone.” That song has always had such a great feel to it, and hearing it live gave the night a little more of that emotional side that DMB does so well. “Recently” was also really cool to get, especially mixed into a set that already had so much early DMB in it.

One of my favorite parts of the night was the back-to-back run of “You Might Die Trying” and “Gravedigger.” Both songs are amazing live, but they hit in different ways. “You Might Die Trying” had that big, driving energy, and Tim Reynolds’ guitar solo was exceptional. Then “Gravedigger” brought in that darker, storytelling feel and gave the set one of its strongest moments.

A major turning point in the show came during “Everyday,” when Jake Simpson came out on violin and stayed with the band for the rest of the night. There is just something about hearing violin with Dave Matthews Band that feels right. It added a lot to the second half of the show, especially on those early DMB songs.

“Satellite” was great to hear. It is always fun getting a DMB classic like that in the set, and it fit really well in a night that already had so much early Dave Matthews Band.

The run of “Pantala Naga Pampa” into “Rapunzel” was another huge highlight. It was really cool to hear the first two tracks from Before These Crowded Streets back-to-back. That album is probably my personal favorite Dave Matthews Band album, so I loved how much of the night leaned into it. They ended up playing the first five songs from that album with “Pantala Naga Pampa,” “Rapunzel,” “The Last Stop,” “Don’t Drink the Water,” and “Stay (Wasting Time),” which made the whole show feel extra special for me.

“Tripping Billies” is always so much fun to hear live, and then “Don’t Drink the Water” gave the end of the main set a big, intense finish. Between the songs from Before These Crowded Streets, four songs from Under the Table and Dreaming, “Tripping Billies,” and “Recently,” this was a setlist that really celebrated a lot of early DMB.

The encore was incredible. They came back out with “Paper Town,” a new Dave Matthews song written for the upcoming Papertown documentary. This was my first time hearing the song, and I thought it was great. Sometimes a new song can feel like a pause in the show, but this one worked really well live. It felt meaningful, and it held the crowd in a way that made it feel like more than just a new song being tested out.

Then they closed with “The Last Stop,” and that was an incredible way to end the night. After already getting so much from Before These Crowded Streets, finishing with that song felt perfect. It was powerful, heavy, and exactly the kind of closer that makes you walk away from a show feeling like you got something special.

Final Thoughts

This was a great Dave Matthews Band show. Nearly three hours, a strong setlist, a lot of early DMB, and some really special moments in the second half once Jake Simpson joined on violin.

For me, the biggest thing was how much the night leaned into Before These Crowded Streets. Opening with “Stay (Wasting Time),” hearing “Pantala Naga Pampa” into “Rapunzel,” getting “Don’t Drink the Water,” and then closing the whole night with “The Last Stop” made it feel like a show built for fans who love that era of the band.

Dave Matthews Band is one of those groups where every show has its own personality, and this one had a really good one. It was high energy, emotional in the right spots, and full of songs that reminded me why their live shows still feel like an event.
